Show CSU Thunderbird Baseball Team Takes Six Day, Ten Game Jaunt to Nevada, California Baseball will get underway with a bang for 18 members of j the College of Southern Utah ; Thunderblrds this week when they take off on a one week trip and a 10-game playing slate. Coach Cleo Petty and his crew left this morning, Thursday, for Nevada and Southern California. On the trip they will have 10 games in six days before returning return-ing to the Cedar City campus. Here is the schedule for the coming week. Thursday, March 18: Nevada Southern at Las Vegas, Nev., two games. Friday, March 1!): Azusa Col lege at Ausa, Calif., one game. Saturday, March 20: Laverne College, La Verne, Calif., two games. Monday, March 22: Chapman College, Orange City Park, Calif, one game. Tuesday, March 23: Biola Col lege, LaMirada, Calif, two games. Wednesday, March 21: California Califor-nia Poly, Pomona, Calif., two games. The T-Birds this year are expected ex-pected to be a little stronger than they were during the 1964 season. They have more depth In their pitching staff, and a number of returning lettermen back to bolster bol-ster the hitting and fielding departments. de-partments. First line pitching duties probably pro-bably fall on veterans Son Sudbury Sud-bury and Hank Halversen with Mike Erling the number one left hander, back for his second year of mound duty for the T-Birds. Other right nanders who will be seeing action this year include Jack Wood, a freshman from California; Larry (Jittins a product of tlCaJon, Calif., also a freshman, and Doug Walters, trom Tooele, a sophomore transfer trans-fer Horn Weber State College. Dennis Osgood is a lett hander from Las Vegas, Nev., who will also see action on the mound. Veterans of the statf, Sudbury, Halversen and fcrling, are expected expect-ed to see considerable action tins season. Keed Backus has the first base position sewed up pretty tight as does John Johnson at second and Kex Wright at third. All three were stalwart performers for the past two years.
