Show CSU Fifty Year Club Holds Annual Meet. Accepts Class. Elects Officers The Fifty Year Club, representing represent-ing the BNS BAC CSU, held its annual reunion on Founder's Day, March 11. The day's activities began with a business meeting at 10:00 a. m. at the Library Lounge. In his opening remarks President Lehl Jones stated that this would be known as Parley and Mabel Day, honoring the Dalleys for service rendered to the College and their fellow men. A corsage was presented pre-sented to Mrs. Dalley by Zelma Jones Lunt, a boutennlere was placed In the lapel of Mr. Dal-ley's Dal-ley's coat. The Dalleys were presented pre-sented a book entitled "Standing Up Country" by C Gregory Crampton. Mrs. Eliza Haight Jones of Salt Lake City made the presentation. Honor Ella Leigh Mrs. Ella Berry Leigh was honored hon-ored for being the only living member of the class of 1900 to be on hand for the reunion. Mrs. T-eigh was given a lovely corsage by Mrs. Zelma Jones Lunt. The Fifty Year Club also had as a special guest for the day. Robert Will Bulloch, and his daughter-in-law, Bernlece Bul loch. Mr. Bulloch is the only remaining re-maining original founder of the college. At this time old friends met, reminisced, elected new officers, had a roll call by year, amended the constitution, had both a historical his-torical and a financial report, and the Class of 1915 was admitted admit-ted into the club as members. The new officers are: Joseph C. Smith, president; J. Harold Mitchell, Mit-chell, first vice president; Zelma Jones Lunt, second vice president; presi-dent; Inez Cooper, historian and Naomi Piatt, secretary. Get Legislature News As the meeting was drawing to a close, Prof. Parley Dalley was called to Hazen Cooley's office of-fice where he talked long distance dis-tance to Governor Calvin H. Rampton. During their conversation, conversa-tion, Governor Rampton told Mr. Dalley that the bill giving College Col-lege of Southern Utah its own board of trustees had been signed. Director Royden C. Bralthwalte was In the governor's office at the time of this call. Colncldentally, 68 years ago to the day, in 1897, a bill was approved ap-proved and passed In the Utah State Legislature establishing a branch of the state normal school in Cedar City. Governor Rampton Ramp-ton and Director Braithwaite both sent congratulations and best wishes to the Fifty Year Club on Founder's Day. Annual Luncheon After the meeting, the members mem-bers and guests gathered at the Small Ballroom of the Student Center for their annual luncheon. President Lehl Jones served as master of ceremonies, and gave the welcoming address to the new incoming class of 1915. Responses Re-sponses were given by Zelma Jones Lunt, Cedar City; Afton Watson Hunt, Salt Lake City; Nevada Watson Drlggs, Seattle, Wash.; Marvin Terry, Sprlngdale, and Otto Dalley, Summit. Filling in for Director Bralthwalte Bralth-walte who was in Salt Lake City, Professor Harry Plummer addressed addres-sed the group on the "Fifty Year Club and the Collge." Professor Roy L. Halversen and the string ensemble favored the group with three numbers. Pictures were taken, ta-ken, and then the group adjourned adjourn-ed until 8:00 p. m. when they gathered at the auditorium for the Founder's Day Assembly, fea. turing the Drama Department of the College of Southern Utah. Moments of drama were presented present-ed with members of the original casts giving the audience moments mo-ments from several different plays that have been presented on the campus down through the years. Members of the Class of 1915 present for the reunion were: Afton Af-ton Watson Hunt, Salt Lake City; Zelma Jones Hunt, Cedar City; Otto Dalley, Summit; Cora Hulet Dalley, Summit; Marvin Terry, Sprlngdale and Ray Lyman, Parowan. Par-owan. Faculty Ladies Entertain At the conclusion of the assembly assem-bly the Lady Faculty Association of the College of Southern Utah sponsored a Friendship Hour at the Family Living Center. Fifty Year Club members and partners were honored guests at this occasion. occa-sion. Acting as chairman for the Friendship Hour was Naomi Piatt, with committee members Bonnie Jones, Lucille Knee, Annis Shepherd, Shep-herd, Pat Peterson, Jean Porter, Elma Hardy and Catherine Grim-shaw. |
