Maughan, first vice president; Mrs. Broadbent, president; Mrs. Jay Thorley, second vice president and Mrs. Al Fisher, treasurer. i Women's Club Elects Charter Officers Following a series of rigid in-vetslgations in-vetslgations by the American Association of University Women, Wo-men, officers for a Cedar City branch were named Wednesday and the first meeting of those officers was hold Wednesday afternoon, af-ternoon, according to Mrs. L. V. Broadbent, president. The Cedar Ci'y branch will be associated with t lie Utah branch as well as the national organization, organi-zation, Mrs. Broadbent stated. Officers selected to serve In the initiation of the AAUW include: in-clude: Mrs. Reese P. Maughan, first vice president; Mrs. Jay Thorley, second vice president; Mrs. Lex P. Wilkinson, secretary, and Mrs. Al Fisher, treasurer. At the first meeting of the officers offi-cers chairman were selected for the permanent committees of the AAUW as prescribed by the national na-tional association. Selections were made as follows: fol-lows: Education, Helen Stones, Fellowship, Wm. H. Leigh; International In-ternational Relations, Mrs. Boyd C. Smith; Legislative Program, Mrs. R. O. Case; Social Studies. Mrs. Mario Topham; Status of Women, Mary McMillan; Arts, Mrs. Vernee Frame; Publicity, Mrs. Max Whitney, and Handbook, Hand-book, Mrs. Frank L. Cooley. The AAUW is organized as a study action group affording opportunities op-portunities to widen horizons, to help build a better community and to contribute to the Jmtelll-gent Jmtelll-gent solution of national and in-ternation in-ternation problems. Membership to the group Is governed by the national organization, organi-zation, Mrs. Broadbent said. Each applicant must have received a bachelor of science degree from an accredited college before membership will be allowed, she pointed out. The national organization, she indicated, has a million dollar trust fund and each year grants to women graduate students are given. Program material for the Cedar City branch, as for other branches, branch-es, will be supplied by the national na-tional organization, Mrs. Broadbent Broad-bent stated. |
