Show VISION (These articles are submitted weekly by your Optometrists of Southern Utah, in cooperation with your local newspaper, in order to better acquaint you with the function and problems of vision). Optometry is the profession of visual care. It is concerned con-cerned with seeing as applied to clarity of eyesight, clarity clari-ty of thinking and clarity of learning. Optometry achieves the purpose sometimes through the skilled prescription of glasses alone; sometimes through visual training procedures, proced-ures, and sometimes through both. Lenses affect the focus of the eyes. But, optometry also recognizes that this is a direct adjustment of only one step in the intricate cycle and delicate balance of vis-ton. vis-ton. This adjustment may effect, indirectly, many other bodily functions as well. Professional optometry places emphasis on adequate visual care and insists upon the careful, unhurried and complete visual analysis of the patient. Likewise, professional profes-sional optometry places emphasis on the quality of lenses used. The prescription of power is exact, to create or restore re-store proper balance in the visual process. No error in grinding, flaw or distortion can be permitted to defeat the intention of the prescription. Optometric research has resulted in visual training procedures which, through the eyes, can rearrange balancing balanc-ing and matching processes in the brain to make information in-formation reliable, experience accurate, learning easier and intelligence greater. |
