Show National Holiday To Be Observed Under Different Title As in years past, the Nation will honor its veterans on No- vember 11 this year. But. this' November 11, the Nation will be honoring the veterans of all of Americas wars, on "Veterans Ky,M instead of paying homage only- to -veterans of World War I on "Armistice Day." " j The last session of Congress' passed an act, approved June 1.1 1954. changing Armistice Day warned in honor of veterans and deceased servicemen of World War I to Veterans Day, commemorating com-memorating the services of veterans vet-erans of all wars. President Eisenhower named Harvey V. Higley, Administrator of Veterans Affairs, as chairman of a national committee to encourage en-courage observance of Veterans Day by the entire citizenry. Mr. Higley has named the following fol-lowing eight as associate chairmen: chair-men: Charles E. Wilson, Secretary of Defense; Rep. Edward H. Rees (Kansas), sponsor of the congressional congres-sional resolution naming Veterans Vet-erans Day; Seaborn P. Collins, Jr., National Commander of the American Legion; Rufus H. Wilson, Wil-son, National Commander of the American Veterans of World War II and Korea (Amvets); Alfred L. English, National Commander of the Disabled American Veterans Vet-erans (DAV). George K. Shamgocian, National Nation-al Commandant of the Marine Corps League; Lloyd Thurston, Commander-in-chief of the United Unit-ed Spanish War Veterans; Mer-ton Mer-ton B. Tiro, Commander-in-chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). The last six associate chairmen chair-men head veterans organizations chartered by Congress. |
