Show Cedar Junior High School Provides Halloween Program for its Students (By 1 C. Miles, Principal of the Cedar Junior High School) That time of year is here again when boys and girls, large and small, are a little uneasy in their step and act. I The rustle of the falling leaves, j the crackling of the corn fodder , and the itching of hands to get hold of a few tomatoes for unworthy un-worthy purposes prevades the fall atmosphere. It is also the time of year when ghosts and goblins are lurking in haunted hotises and in dark corners. Many of these things are well I and good and a create lot of fun for almost everyone, but as in everything else, there is always al-ways a certain minority, usually us-ually comparatively small, who and traditions, Hallowe'en being no exception to the rule. Forget True Purpose In the process of moderization they completely forget the true: purpose of the occasion and improvise im-provise tricks and pranks that, often do serious damage to in -, nocent people. Particularly for this reason asj wel as to provide wholesome , entertainment, a decade ago the , Cedar City Junior High School through its student council and faculty advisors inauguarated a program which has pretty well taken care of the junior high age group, during the Hallowe'en evening. There have been loopholes in the whole affair, particularly in the fact that all age groilps are not . provided for and also that many of the organizations that have instituted similar programs have arranged them to precede Hallowe'en several days. This does not provided the entertainment entertain-ment when it is needed, tainment when it is most needed. In many cities and towns they are meeting this problem by having hav-ing a central organization comprised com-prised of representatives from interested groups, such as schools church groups, civic and other, and whose duty it is to plan for all ages on Hallowe'en evening from dark to midnight. The Junior High program will be held Saturday night, Oct. 30, and will get underway with a spook alley sponsored by the Cedar City Lions Club, at 8 p.m. with a costom dance starting immediately afterwards. At the dance the young folks will be provided with all kinds of fun makers and refreshments appropriate to the occsion. At 10 p.m. they will be the guests of the Yergenson Brothers at the local theatres and will enjoy a real spook show until I midnight. After the show those in charge of the activities expect the young people to go home and most of I them will. Support of the par-cnts par-cnts in this will be greatly appreciated. ap-preciated. I The teachers and student court-j court-j oil spend considerable time during dur-ing the week to impress on the students the real meaning and purpose of Hallowe'en. In this .the school leaders also hope for j the support of the parents.. |
