Show Mayor Orders Action to Curb Vandalism As a means of overcoming vandalism van-dalism and other forms of mischief mis-chief by juveniles in Cedar City, Mayor Arnold Anderson has ordered or-dered several special actions by the police department, including inauguration of a curfew practice prac-tice and the confiscation of all air rifles or rifles of any type being used within the city limits. li-mits. Considerable damage is being done to public and private property prop-erty by youngsters with air fifles, Mayor Anderson states, which has prompted him to issue an order to the police officers to confiscate con-fiscate any gun that is being fired on the streets or anywhere in the city. The greatest damage has been in i he form of broken windows it is understood, and as a means of protecting public property it has become necessary to order the boarding up of windows at the municipal swimming pool, Mayor Anderson says. In order to keep juveniles off the streets at late hours the curfew cur-few ordinance has been put into effect. The ordinance provides that no juvenile shall be on the Mima ijuivn-fii iiik iiuuis ol 11 p. m. and 4 a. m., Mayor Anderson An-derson says, and the police have been ordered to enforce it. Under the. plan any youngster found on the streets after ll p. m. will bej taken to the police office and held there until parents, who will be contacted, call at the office of-fice to take the children home. A short blast on the fire siren will announce the time each evening eve-ning so that no youngster will have the excuse of not knowing what time it is. Efforts will also be made to stop another practice that is unlawful, that of juveniles getting get-ting cigarettes from vending machines. ma-chines. Any youth caught getting get-ting cigarettes from such machines ma-chines will be brought before the juvenile judge and and the operator of the machine will be arraigned on a misdemeanor charge. i . |
