Show Jaycee Street Lighting Program In our present day world of competitive markets and free enterprise it is an understood axiom that in order to prosper we must continually progress and make improvements improve-ments to meet the competitive demands. This axiom applies ap-plies not only to business but to cities, government and all aspects of everyday living. The Cedar City Junior Chamber of Commerce, who has been directly responsible for the Christmas Lighting program pro-gram in Cedar City has seen the need this year for a complete com-plete change and newly developed decorating program this year. The committee, headed by Garth Webster, has taken it upon themselves to outline a lighting and decoration system for Cedar City that can be, started with the idea of growth in mind. A plan has already been presented by this energetic committee that would completely revamp the lighting program, which they feel has become inadequate inad-equate for a city the size of Cedar City. Detailed plans and formulated endeavors to carry this new plan out have already gotten underway. Under the new program the Jaycees have contemplated spending between be-tween $200 and $300 to initiate the program, but much more is needed to develop the decoration nrotrrnm this year. As a result the committee has or will call on other civic organizations and businesses of the community to help carry out this program. St. George, as business houses already know, is our biggest competitor for Yuletide season trade in southern Utah. St. George has already pledged somewhere in the vicinity of $2500 for the development of a Christmas Lighting Light-ing program this year. If Cedar City does not respond immediately we can expect a good share of the residents here and in Washington County to do their shopping there with the lighting program as an attraction. This committee has already purchased additional materials ma-terials Jor this year's program and at the present time has undertaken to construct to "Merry Christmas" signs which will be illuminated at either entrance and which will stretch across Main Street. A completely revised lighting light-ing system with emphasis on a concentrated lighting program pro-gram has already begun. Illuminating Santa Clauses reindeer. and a Bethlehem Star Will add considerably to the program this year. Any additional funds that the city or interested groups may add will aid in the effort to make Cedar City decorations outstanding this year and in years to come. The Junior Chamber has done an outstanding job in the past and only one criticism is offered at this time. That criticism is that the lights have not been turned on early enough in the evening in the past. The Jaycees have the right idea in stimulating the progress pro-gress of the community with up to date decorations for city betterment and pride. Support by businesses and civic organizations actually means support of Cedar City as a shopping center and support of effects to make the City your city, a better place in which to live. |
