Show VISION i MORE ABOUT THAT SH00TIN' EYE j As wonderful as the eye and brain combination can be, it is still subject to certain defects. The eye itself, of course, is subject to refractive errors which impair effi-l ciency, the most common ones being hyperopia (commonly (com-monly called farsightedness), myopia (commonly called nearsightedness), and astigmatism. These errors are all correctible by glasses. If you hunt you owe it to yourself and to your fellow hunters to know the condition of your eyes. Your optometrist has instruments with which precise pre-cise measurements can be made of these refractive errors as well as the ability of your eyes to change focus. Periodic Period-ic examinations should be made of your entire visual apparatus. ap-paratus. It is peculiar, the attention hunters will lavish on a good gun but never even think of checking up on the eyes that operate it. You can buy the best guns for a few hundred dollars, but try shopping around for a good shoot-in' shoot-in' eye sometime. If you are one of those hunters who has to wear glasses out in the field, here are some points which might be valuable. Most lens corrections are now available in hardened lenses. This would form excellent protection from flying shot, tree limbs, or just plain carelessness. The lenses appear very little different from an ordinary lens but are practicaly indestructible. Bifocal wearers often have trouble in unfamiliar country, coun-try, and especially on rocky terrain. Specitl "hunting bifocals" bi-focals" can be designed for you which have the little segment seg-ment extremely low or over to one side so one can look around or over it easily in walking. Or if you don't think you'll be carrying your favorite magazine along when hunting, just have a plain pair of distance glasses made. That coating process which has been applied so effectively ef-fectively to modern hunting scopes can also be used on your eyeglasses. Its benefits are not so apparent, however, because there are only two surfaces involved in a pair of glasses. If you wear thick lenses, though, you can notice the difference, as it does reduce reflections. If dust and water annoy you in the field by collecting on your glasses, try some of this new lens-coating type glass cleaner. It leaves a transparent film on the lenses for several days which helps water and dust slide off the glasses with hardly hard-ly a mark. . Next week more about that Shootin' Eye |
