Show Cedar All-Stars Win Over St. George, 12-3 The All -Stars of the Cedar City softball league downed a strong team from St. George, 12 to 3, in a game played Wednesday evening on the local diamond. ine game was a nine inning contest. con-test. The all-star team, was in complete com-plete control of the game from the first inning of play when it scored two runs" on three hits. St. George did not score until the fifth inning then scored two of its three runs with two hits and an error. The Cedar team, behind the pitching of George Sturzenneg-ger, Sturzenneg-ger, Burdell Ruesch and Mel Reeves, had the game under control con-trol at all times. Consistent hitting hit-ting enabled the Cedar nine to collect runs in almost every Inning In-ning of play. St. George collected seven hits I during the contest but was only ' able to score three runs. Cedar pounded out 13 hits. . I Players selected on the all-star I team were as follows: Dick Dot-son, Dot-son, catcher; Gordon Sargent, first base; Geo Petty, second base; "Bunny" Fullmer, third base; Benny Madsen, short stop; LaMar Clark, left field; Owen Gulliford, center field, and Kent "Red" Dover, right field. Sturz-enegger Sturz-enegger was selected as the starting pitcher and was relieved by Ruesch and Reeves. Yorke Nelson was selected, as manager of the team with Sid Thompson and Garth Penney as coaches and pinch hitters. Lowell Sher-ratt Sher-ratt and Klien Rollo were utility infielders and Keith Cripps was selected as utility outfielder, and all saw action in the game. Watson and Jennings did the chucking for St. George and Mac-Arthur Mac-Arthur completed the battery for the Dixie team. |
