Show Cedar's Future Depends on Water In the previous articles of this series we have discussed the supply sup-ply and system, the needs as regards re-gards to tanks, lines and supply for the present population of Cedar Ce-dar City. We have outlined the surveys and Investigations that have been made of all surface supplies in this drainage area and the various underground waters, wa-ters, and pointed out the reasons for actions thus far taken to meet immediate needs of Cedar City. It has further been shown what the normal anticipated growth of Cedar City will be, based on the records of the past. No consideration con-sideration has been given for any abnormal population increase in-crease which could be precipitated precipi-tated by industrial expansion, were adequate water available. The supply which is being ad ded, with the Enoch well and pipe line, takes care of the present pres-ent population only in a growth year similar to 1951. It is necessary, therefore to correlate all of the findings and project possible water developments develop-ments based, on the anticipated growth of the city. In making such a projection no consideration can be given to any present use of water short of municipal consumption. No consideration can be given to the quality of water. No consideration considera-tion can be given to the drainage drain-age area from which it comes. The determining factor will have to be the use to which it is to be put, the cost of the development develop-ment and of proper treatment to eliminate undesirable qualities. Priority of water development should be In the following order; 1. Suitable water which is not presently being used. 2. Unsuitable water not presently pres-ently being used, providing the cost of treatment is not prohibitive. prohib-itive. , 3. Suitable waters being used with theJeast inconvenience to present users. 4. Unsuitable water presently being used that can be treated at a reasonable cost. Careful consideration will have to be given, in all cases, to costs and the city's ability to amortize these costs from anticipated revenues. rev-enues. With the above thought in mind, next week's article will begin a discussion of possible (sources of future developments. |
