Show State Building Board Names Gardner BAC Dorm Architect The State Building Board Tuesday Tues-day appointed L. Robert Gardner Cedar City, as architect for the proposed new men's dormitory on the Branch Agricultural college campus, according to word received re-ceived here from Dr. Daryl Chase, director of the college. Dr. Chase in a telephone conversation from Salt Lake City Tuesday afternoon, after-noon, announced the official ap. pointment of Mr. Gardner, and expressed his delight at the selection. se-lection. Appointment of the architect for the new $250,000 dormitory, means that plans can proceed immediately on preparation for the new structure, Dr. Chase states. Funds for the new dormitory, a self-liquidating project, were assured some time ago when approval ap-proval for a loan of the amount needed was make by the Federal Housing and Finance Administration Adminis-tration The new structure to be located locat-ed on the campus Immediately south of the Memorial fleldhouse, will be designed to house 200 men students on a housekeeping housekeep-ing basis. A committee of college faculty facul-ty members has been studying tentative plans for such a dormitory dormi-tory for some time, and has made recommendations for a two-story. 50-unit dormitory. Each unit would pi o vide housing for four men students, the plan calling for two bedrooms accommodating accom-modating two men each, with four students sharing kitchen, shower and bath facilities in each unit I The recommended plans would provide very compact units, each containing all needed facilities and entirely adequate for four students. The faculty commttee is headed head-ed by Hazen Cooley as chairman, and includes Harry Plummer, Mc-Ray Mc-Ray Howard, David Gates, Conrad Con-rad Hatch, Laneice Moore, Reed Cox and C. B. Cooley. Mr. Gardner will proceed Immediately Im-mediately with the preparation of plans in order that construe-ton construe-ton may be started at the earliest possible moment, Dr. Chase stated. |
