Show Auditorium, Library Bids Top Available Funds by $59,000.00 Bids for the construction of the proposed new library and auditorium audi-torium building on the Branch Agricultural college campus in Cedar City were opened by the State Building Board in Salt Lake City Thursday, and it was found that the lowest bid was nearly $60,000 over the funds available for the structure at this time. After the architect's plans had been accepted, estimates for the cost of construction were asked for from leading contractors of the state, and after eliminations from the building of various features fea-tures had been made, and indications indica-tions were that the construction cost would be well within the funds available. However, the lowest bid was for $428,768. It was submitted by the Jensen Construction company of Salt Lake City, with seven other bids submitted. An appropriation of $400,000 had been made for the new building, but incidental funds,, architect's fees and other Items had reduced the amount for actual ac-tual construction to approximately approximate-ly $370,000. Thus the low bid is approximately $59,000 more than the funds available. James A. Wade, superintendent of construction, reported after the bids had been opened, that the State Building Board would study stu-dy means of obtaining the additional addi-tional funds needed. |
