The forms are being placed at the plant and the concrete is expected expect-ed to be poured in the near future. fu-ture. Work has been progressing for nearly two weeks on the sewer lines in the western part of the city and barring unforsoen difficulties, diffi-culties, they should be completed complet-ed in 90 days. Contractors on the project are the Thatcher Construction Con-struction company of Ogden, at the disposal plant, and L. A. Creer of Provo, on the outfall lines. The disposal plant, when completed com-pleted will give the city sewage only a primary treatment, but it will be built in such a way that with additional units, the water can be purified and chlorinated, making it fit to drink. Built to serve a city population of between be-tween 10,000 and 12,000, the plant can be enlarged as the city grows. At the present time, the water after treatment can be used for only certain types of irrigation, but the city plans to make arrangements ar-rangements with the farmers in the area, whereby the water can be used by them to irrigate in exchange for well water now used by the farmers. Upon the completion of the project, the two sceptic tanks now used for the city sewer system sys-tem in the East side of town will be abandoned, and the sewage transferred to the new plant. Cost, of the disposal plant which consists mainly of a large tank 36 feet below ground in which the sewage rests until all solid matter is deposited on the bottom, is estimated at $50,148.93. Periodically the sluge will be removed re-moved from the bottom of the tank and placed in drying beds, after which it will be broken up and used for fertilizer. The cost of the outfall lines, according to the accepted bid is $34,151.60. |
