Show City Council Hikes Cedar 1948 Tax Levy .3 Mills The City Council In meeting Thursday night set the 1943 tax levy at 26.3 mills, an increase of .3 of a mill over the levy of the last year. Although there was very little change in the total levy considerable change was made in the fund levies, because of the fact that additional funds will be needed for construction at the airport. Plans for a new administration building at the airport have been approved with the CAA and the State providing the major portion of the funds. However, in order to provide matching funds it was necessary for the city to levy a tax of 6.00 mills for that purpose pur-pose this year. The levy last year was 2.4 mills. The major reduction was made in the levy for the general fund, which was reduced from 4.4 mills levied last year, to 1.9 mills for 1948. Slight reductions were made in the city halls and memorials levy, which was reduced from 1 mill to .8 of a mill, and in the levy for public safety and for post war planning. The public safety levy was set at 4.7 mills as compared to 5.00 mills last year, and the planning levy was down to 1.2 mills as compared to 1.5 mills last year. No change was made in the streets and sidewalks levy, which was 5 mills, the bond sinking fund, 3 mills; the library fund, 1.7 mills, and the parks and public pub-lic property fund. 2 mills. |
