Over the years, the color crew has made carpet colors to match a myriad of items. The plant has made carpet to match a navy blue bedroom slipper, purple lingerie, spools of thread and even the hair from an Irish Setter, according to Janice Tripp, lab technician. This dye lab processes about 250 to 300 orders a month. Most special dye requests come from interior designers working for residential customers, Tripp adds. Each request to the lab is accompanied by a fabric swatch, a paint chip or a wallpaper sample. When you walk into any carpet store, you see a rainbow assortment of colors. There are shades of blue, green, red, peach, beige and many more. But sometimes you say to yourself, "The blue is a little too dark and the red is a little too bright. Growing up in Centerville, she knew of one boy at her school who had polio. "His condition wasnt serious. I also knew people at the hospital who had polio but no one my age. Miss Hansen completed two years of secretarial study at Stevens Hen-nagCollege. With her physical limitations, finding a job was not easy. I knew many people in wheelchairs who didnt even bother to go out looking for a job. At that time, there were a lot of places where you couldnt get into the buildings. There weren't ramps like today. I looked for a job for three years. A test given by a state employment office indicated Miss Hansens aptitude for skilled manual work. She applied for a job offered by Litton Inc. as an electronic parts assembler. I will have worked for Litton 22 years in July. Secretary Skills I had no experience. I learned as I went along.
