Hartman assuring Russians that Americans remember their heroic contributions to World War II victory and want only peaoe. The text was published on page four of the government newspaper and marked the 40th anniversary of the meeting of Soviet and American soldiers on the Elbe River on April S, 1945. Hartman said the event occurred when he was a U.S. airman in the Far East. I well remember the event, and the joy and hope It Inspired, he if profoundly wrote. Two great different peoples had at long last linked up In a common cause. In that bright spring of 1945, nothing on larth seemed Impossible. Much has changed since then.
