Show The Salt Lake Tribune. hundav January B7 iv,ii Health Survey To Measure Resident .Needs The Utah Department of Health is planning a statewide survey of 6.00U households to measure residents' health needs later this month John E. Broekert, director, Bureau of Health Statistics, said the survey, the first of its kind, aims to gather data that would serve as a baseline information source for planning of many of the department's public-healtprograms. No comprehensive survey ot this size has ever been attempted, he said "We don't know the extent of illness and injury for the residents ol Utah." he said "The lack of this type of information seriously limits the planning and evaluation capabilities of the department " Data will be obtained on such high-risfactors as hypertension, inadequate exercise, excess alcohol consumption, tobacco use, use of auto seat belts and the frequency of speeding when driving. The survey will provide information to estimate the prevalence of diseases and the amount of health insurance coverage Utahns carry. Five hundred households in each of the twelve local health department service areas will be polled, in a computer-assisted interview system that uses random phone number dialing The survey begins Jan. 25, he said. "I hope that all who are called will cooperate with us in this important survey.
