Show Held at St. Olaf's McNamara Center Mardi Gras celebration slated for Feb. 28 This year's Mardi Gras Celebration Celebra-tion for the Bountiful area will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 28 in anticipation an-ticipation of the Easter season. Mardi Gras will be held at the St. Olaf's McNamara Center Hall, beginning at 6 p.m. and continuing until 9 p.m. Many booths are being organized in anticipation of the carnival celebrations. Food booths will include in-clude such items as pizza, burritos, hamburgers and hot dogs. Soft drinks and desserts will be in plentiful plen-tiful supply. Once everyone's appetites are satisfied, the children can mingle among the game booths, playing various carnival games. Games will include everything from basketball shooting to golf putting to face painting. Mardi Gras tradition includes marching bands; and, holding with that tradition, the Judge Memorial High School Jazz Band will be on hand. Under the direction of Susan Northway, the band will perform many New Orleans style Jazz favorites. For those of us who can't hit the broad side of a bam with a basketball, basket-ball, there will also be a raffle. Mark Peterson will also be on hand with a jewelry cleaning booth. French colonists introduced Mardi Gras to America in the early 1700s. But the Mardi Gras celebration celebra-tion goes back to an ancient Roman custom of merrymaking before a period of fasting. The custom continues con-tinues throughout the world with different variations. The Bountiful residents are great celebrators of tradition, particularly traditions celebrating children and good entertainment. |
