Show Brig. Gen. John C. Griffith nominated for promotion HILL AIR FORCE BASE Brig. Gen. John C. "Clark" Griffith, vice commander of the Ogden Air Logistics Center here since September 1989, has been nominated for promotion to the grade of major general in the United States Air Force. The center has worldwide responsibility for the logistics support of two major aircraft systems, the F-16 and F-4; and the entire force of intercontinental ballistic missiles. The center is also responsible for supporting many commodities, including aircraft wheels, brakes, tires, air munitions, propel ants and explosives. "I'm extremely proud of Clark Griffith's selection for promotion to the grade of major general,' said Maj. Gen. Dale W. Thompson Jr., Ogden ALC commander. "He has been an instrumental part of the tremendous progress and improvement this air logistics center has made over the last three years. "He's most deserving of this recognition for advancement. ad-vancement. His selection is a significant event for Hill AFB.' Known for his country humor and love for the Air Force, Griffith was proud of his selection. "Believe me, it was really exciting to receive a call from General (Charles C.) McDonald (Air Force Logistics Command commander) telling me I had been selected for a second star,' Griffith said. "Being on such a superb Hill team certainly played a big part in my nomination." A native of Gadsden, Ala., Griffith earned a bachelor's bache-lor's degree in business administration and management manage-ment from the University of Alabama in 1963, and a master's degree in public administration from Auburn University in 1977. He completed Squadron Officer School in 1970, Air Command and Staff College in 1977, and National War College in 1983. The general has held many command and staff positions posi-tions throughout his career. He is a command pilot with more than 4,400 flying hours in fighter and trainer aircraft. air-craft. A distinguished graduate of the Reserve Officer Training Corps program, Griffith was commissioned as a second lieutenant in September 1963. After com pleting pilot training at Craig AFB, Ala., in December 1964, he was an instructor pilot at Laredo AFB, Texas. From August 1968 to September 1969, he was a forward for-ward air controller with the 1 st and 9th Infantry Divisions, Divi-sions, Bien Hoa Air Base, South Vietnam. During this assignment, he flew more than 280 missions and 430 combat hours in support of U.S. Army ground forces. He returned to Air Training Command as an instructor instruc-tor pilot at Craig AFB and then served successfully as chief of the Check Section, assistant section commander, com-mander, flight commander, and T-37 standardization and evaluation chief. In April 1972, he was selected as a member of the standardization and evaluation team for Headquarters ATC, Randolph AFB, Texas. In July 1973, Griffith moved to the Air Force Manpower Man-power and Personnel Center, Randolph AFB, Texas, as chief of the Rated Supplement Section. In August 1976, he entered Air Command and Staff College, Maxwell AFB, Ala. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the 4th Tactical Fighter Wing, Seymour Johnson AFB, N.C., as operations officer of the 334th Tactical Fighter Squadron. He later served as commander com-mander of the 335th and 336th Tactical Fighter Squadrons. The general attended National War College from August 1982 to June 1983. He then transferred to Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., and served on the staff of the deputy chief of staff for manpower man-power and personnel. In March 1985, Griffith was assigned as commander of the 64th Air Base Group, Reese AFB, Texas. He then served as commander of the 47th Flying Training Wing, Laughlin AFB, Texas, from July 1986 to July 1987, when he became deputy chief of staff for personnel per-sonnel at ATC headquarters. In March 1988, he became director of assignments, Air Force Military Personnel Center, Randolph Air Force Base. Griffith was one of 23 Air Force general officers recently re-cently nominated for promotion by President George Bush. Nominees must be confirmed by the Senate. Griffith is married to the former Jean Ridolphi of Montgomery, Ala. They have two daughters, Lucy and Margaret. |
