Show Qualifying event set for Bountiful golf shop Three Wasatch Front companies recently announced they will hold a local qualifying tournament for the First Annual Par T Golf World Indoor In-door Tournament of Champions. The local qualifying tourneys are slated for March 1-7. Each two-person team will complete com-plete a nine or 18-hole of indoor golf to determine the top low-net teams for each location. The tournaments tour-naments will be played on Par T Golf simulators installed at Optronics Op-tronics and Life O'Riley, both in Salt Lake City and All Seasons Golf in Bountiful. Dubbed the "Incredible Golf Machine," the Par T Golf simulator projects one of 950 golf course images onto a screen in front of a golfer. Participating golfers line up each shot using real clubs and balls. Once a ball is hit into the screen, the simulator uses infrared cameras to measure the speed, angle and spin of the ball. A computer then calculates the flight of the ball and projects it onto the screen, complete with bounce and roll. Participants in the local qualifying qualify-ing tournaments will compete on one of seven simulated golf courses available from Optronics Ltd., the manufacturer of the Par T Golf simulators. The two winning teams from each local tournament will then advance to the regional qualifying quali-fying tournament. Trie regional qualifying tournament tourna-ment will be held March 21 and 22 in Salt Lake City at Optronics, one of 24 such regional tournaments to be held throughout the world. The top team from each regional qualifying tournament will advance to the 36-hole International Finals, slated for April 9-11 at Optronics. Participants in the International Finals will play 18 holes each on simulated versions of the world-renowned world-renowned Pebble Beach and Torrey Pines golf courses. "This is a great chance for our local golfers to compete in an international inter-national event," said Dave Dodds, general tournament chairman. ' "We're expecting thousands of participants from throughout the world to join us in this tournament," tourna-ment," Dodds said.
