Show 1 CENTEBSILLE I HISTORICAL SOCIETY In H All aboard! There must be hundreds of people in south Davis j County who remember with fondness the old Utah Light and j Traction Company's streetcars which ran from Salt Lake City j to Chase Lane in Centerville from 1913 to 1926. Those old trolley cars provided the principal means of transportation trans-portation between Centerville, Bountiful, Val Verda, North Salt Lake and the big city in the days when not too many of us had automobiles. A whole generation or more of school kids rode the streetcar from Centerville, and from points south of Bountiful Junior High School, to attend the school. Many young boys were guilty of 'jerking the trolley' when the car was stopped at Chase Lane and getting ready for the return trip to Salt Lake City. There were also pranksters who applied grease or soap to the rails, and committed other mischievous acts. Ves Harrison will recount those bygone days with anecdotes, pictures and historical facts on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 j p.m. at the monthly meeting of the Centerville Historical Socie- j ty. Any 'oldsters' who were 'youngsters' in those days are invited to the city hall to share your stories and remembrances of the old trolley line. People from the Bountiful area who lived here during that " period are especially invited to attend. i i 1 i |
