Show New managing pro helps lead battle at local tennis facility i'; pi) A new face is now seen regularly at the South Davis Tennis Club. It is owned by Ron Richards, managing manag-ing pro, taking the place of former pro Mike Martines. Ron is committed to the idea that the sport of tennis is important and viable in Davis County, that not only is it a wonderful competitive sport for young athletes in the school system, but is a long-term activity for adults and for families who play together, one that can be participated in and enjoyed by individuals indi-viduals well into their senior years. These same feelings about tennis are shared by a group of citizens of Davis and Salt Lake Counties who are committed to keep the tennis facility known as the Towne and Country Tennis Club open. The four indoor courts, are some of the finest in the state and make tennis in Davis County a year-round activity activ-ity for people of all ages. They are" seeking others who feel as they do that the loss of this facility to, perhaps warehousing, would be a shame not only materially, but in a community rightly proud of all it has to offer and so supportive of all types of sports and activities such as golf, swimming, ice skating, and hockey, football, basketball, track, community theatre, choruses and orchestras and others. The damage would be far greater than most people peo-ple imagine. It is true that there are public outdoor out-door courts for summertime play, and there is a covered facility for indoor play in winter. However, the SDTC is the only club between Salt Lake and Ogden where one can get qualified, professional instruction instruc-tion to further and enhance his game and lift him to a higher level; can participate in USTA league play; can find clinics and workout sessions, ladies' leagues, men's workouts, mixed doubles nights, and a junior program, all under one roof. The key to the success of a tennis club is its professional instructor. Ron Richards, as a junior player, RON RICHARDS was one of the top-ranking players in the Intermountain area. Following Follow-ing two years on the University of Utah tennis team, and a private teaching program in Salt Lake City, Ron moved te North Carolina and became head pro at Sapphir' Valley. J He conducted adult weekend camps, children's tennis camps, private lessons, and hosted the USPTA Training Academy. Ron started a tennis program at Camp Merriewood (girls' summer camp), and is currently working with top Utah junior players. He comes well qualified and pledges to have a full program at SDTC. The public is invited to come in and get acquainted with Ron and with Daretta Yates, office manager. mana-ger. They are making the club available avail-able throughout the month of November to everyone, with no guest fees.
