Show By GARY R. BLODGETT - FARMINGTON An all-time record high 69,376 voters went to the polls to cast their ballots in last Tuesday's general election in Davis County. "That was a record high 92 percent of the 75.102 registered voters in Davis County," according to County Clerk Glen Saunders. Saun-ders. "It's amazing, it's unbelievable, it's wonderful that the turnout was so great.'" But not only was the number of voters and the percentage of those voting all-time records, but there were more registered voters on the books for Tuesday 's election than ever before, the county clerk commented. "We had between 5,000 and 7,000 new registrations there were just too many to count during the last three days of registration in the county,'; he said. "Overall, there were probably prob-ably more than 10,000 new registrations." At the same time, he noted, those persons who died, moved from the district, or otherwise were not qualified voters from the last county election in 1986 were deleted from the registration books leaving a net 75.102 qualified registered voters. Because of the interest in this (general) election, there were more than 3,000 persons who cast absentee ballots prior to Tuesday 's election. "We won't know the figures for a while, but it was undoubtedly a record high number," the clerk said. He emphasized that the tremendous influx of new registrations registra-tions came from all parts of Davis County, but with the Kaysvil-le-Layton area probably recording the majority for a single area of the county. |
