Show Mr., Mrs. John A. Miller observe 50th wedding anniversary today lege of the Armed Forces in 1951. Until his retirement in 19'51 due to a heart ailment, Mr. Miller was employed in Provo. In May of 1961. he joined the LDS Church and on December De-cember 22, 1962, he and Mrs. Miller had their marriage solemnized sol-emnized in the Manti LDS Temple. The Millers are the parents of five sons and daughters: Donald Miller, Carl Miller, Garden Grove, California; Mrs. Woodrow (Lucille) Weight, Mrs. Gary (Margaret May "Margie") Boyack, both of Springville and Richard Miller, Provo. They have 29 grandchildren grandchil-dren and two great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. John A. Miller will be special guests of honor at a family dinner this evening in observance of their 50th weeding anniversary. The family fam-ily gathering will be held at the home of a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wood-row Wood-row Weight. Sunday, the Millers will be further honored as relatives meet at the Miller home for the occasion. Active in civic and church work until recently when they were somewhat impaired with ill health, the Millers had previously pre-viously worked in various capacities ca-pacities in assisting church and civic groups. Mrs. Miller was born in Lyman, Ly-man, Wayne County, Utah, February 7, 1900, the daughter of Joshua Holden and Betsy Bybee Cook. She moved to Delta Del-ta in 1909 and was employed in a drug store there for many years. She married John August Au-gust Miller in Fillmore, August 7, 1919, and continued to live in Delta until 1930. She has been active in the church throughout her life and among the many positions held, she has served as a teacher and later president of the YWMIA, teacher and coordinator in the Junior Sunday School and was active in the Relief Society organization. or-ganization. She has held all offices as well as captain in the Daughters Daugh-ters of Utah Pioneers. She likewise like-wise has held most post offices in the American Legion Auxiliary Auxil-iary and served as district president. pres-ident. She served in nearly all offices in the local American Legion Auxiliary unit including that of president. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Miller worked for a number of years in the Haymond Drug here. Her hobbies include art, needle work, and fishing. John August Miller was born March 15, 1899, at Independence, Independ-ence, Colorado, the son of August Au-gust and Margaret Jane Bailar Miller. He received his education educa-tion in Glenwood Springs, Colorado; Col-orado; San Diego, California and Ft. Myers, Florida. He joined the Navy, May 18, 1917 at Delta, Utah, and served as acting quartermaster on a submarine chaser doing escort duty out of New York harbor. He was discharged February 21, 1919 and then returned to Delta where he married Olive May Cook, August' 7, 1919. They resided in Delta until 1930 when they moved to Springville. Mr. Miller worked as a carpenter car-penter and sheet metal worker from 1919 to 1938 when he operated op-erated a chicken ranch until 1943. An active member of the American Legion since 1919, he served as post finance officer of-ficer and adjutant in Delta prior to joining the Springville post in 1932. In Springville he served as post vice-commander three times, post commander, post adjutant and post service officer. He was also district commander and department vice commandei. He served many years as vice chairman of the Utah County Veterans Council and also the Utah County Standard of Apprenticeship Appren-ticeship Committee for veterans veter-ans training. He was secretary of the Springville Chamber of Commerce Com-merce from 1943 to 1954 and was also secretary of Greater Utah Valley, 1954-55.
