Show Newly designed signs go up for warning motorists during winter which are mounted on a swivel can be swung easily away from the drivers view and locked in that position. Highway Department Depart-ment officials announced that other such signs are in the planning stages reading "Fog-Area "Fog-Area Icy at Times" to be installed on Interstate 15 near Beck Street. These cleverly designed signs ai-e but one of many Highway Depart m e n t innovations to meet the unique needs of Utah's traffic safety problems. The total cost of these signs including labor and installation was $75 each, a small price to pay if it saves a life. Ice and snow have always plagued Utah drivers during the winter months and will probably continue to do so in spite of efforts on the part of the Highway Department to keep the roads clear. More serious ser-ious problems, however, exist when you have certain sections of highway that are subject to drifting snow and ice packing while other sections of the same highway remain dry. One such problem section exists ex-ists on U.S. 91 over the Point of the mountain. To warn motorists mo-torists of thi3 hazard Highway Department crews from District Dis-trict 2 headquarters installed warning signs equiped with yellow yel-low flashing lights to attract attention of the motorist and warn him of icv conditions on the road ahead.
