Show BB guns used by Army for training It's become a BB Gun Army. Sounds silly, but in a way it's true. BB guns have become a standard training weapon for the Army's new "quick kill" techniques. I As a reaction to the war in Vietnam, the Army has started to teach instinct shooting for the close range jungle warfare. Actually, "quick kill" or instinct in-stinct shooting is nothing new. Good shotgun shooters do the same thing. Instead of aiming as one would with a rifle at a stationary target, a man looks with both eyes. In essence he points the gun just as he would point his finger. "Quick kill" training starts with' a BB gun The ammunition is cheap and the BB can be watched in flight. Men are taught to look over the barrel, not sight down it. Soldiers start by shooting at a hollow metal ball 4 inches in diameter which is thrown 10 feet above the shooter's head. Most GI's are hitting 8 out of ten shots within several minutes. The next step is to shoot at a disk 3 inches in diameter. Again shooters usually can achieve hits in a short time period. After becoming proficient with the BB gun GI's are able to convert to the M14 or to the M16 with no trouble at all using us-ing the same "quick kill" method. BB Gun Army? Not realy, but the United States Army remains re-mains ready to use new methods meth-ods in its effort to remain the world's best trained army. |
