Show Devils end good grid year but lose to Spanish Springville's Red Devil gridders grid-ders ended the football season here last Friday with a disheartening dis-heartening 13-7 loss to the Spanish Fork Dons after having hav-ing statistically won the contest con-test only to see it go down with a recovered fumble in the c'osing moments of the game. The loss left the Devils in a tie for second with Spanish Fork. Despite the loss, the Red Devils have exhibited some of the toughest defensive ball in the region and have at times, exhibited an exhuberant outburst out-burst of fine offensive play with good running as well as pass plays. The boys and coaches are to be commended for their fine efforts during the past season and should come up with continued success next season. Hard to lose A devastating attack and a tough defense that refused to budge gave the Jacobsen eleven complete domination of the game for three quarters. The Devils struck out in the second sec-ond period after a drive in the first quarter was stopped and looked like they were going all the way, but the Dons stopped this threat and held. Both teams went scoreless for the first half. Midway in the third quarter quar-ter the Devils scored, featured featur-ed by a pass to Selman for 30 yards and the TD. Reliable Steve Averett who has done an outstanding PAT job throughout through-out the season, booted the extra ex-tra point for a 7-0 lead. The Dons showed their only real offensive push of the game midway in the final quarter to score and tie up the game. The excitement came late in the final quarter after the Dons held the Devils and Groneman kicked to the Dons. Rand Thorn intercepted a Don pass, but on the next play a plunge into the line resulted in a fumblee and a Don recovery recov-ery by Doug Muhlestein who picked up the ball and rambled ramb-led to the Springville 3-yard line from where Sheen went over on the first play to go ahead 13-7 for Spanish which proved to be the victory margin. mar-gin. Springville had 13 first downs to the Don's 4, and made 47 yards to 22 on rushing rush-ing and came up with 224 yards on offense to the Don's 87. They had 36 yards returned return-ed to 27 for Spanish, each had one fumble, the one reason for the Devil's loss.
