Show Traditional Shoot-out Cedar at Dixie Friday It comes down to the final game of the regular season and the Cedar High School Redmen are still vieing for one of the six tournament berths from Region Six as they find themselves in a three-way tie for fifth place with Springville and Pleasant Grove. I To complicate the matter j the Redmen will be traveling & to Dixie to meet the Flyers -I one of the traditionally i I emotion packed games of J the season, -j It all adds up to a real ! show down Friday night in : the St. George gymnasium I when the Redmen and I Flyers are scheduled to !. clash at 7:30 p. m. ; Sophomore clubs will take I the court at 3:30 p.m. J followed by the Junior i Varsity at 5:30 p.m. The Redmen go into Friday night's final round of jA action with somewhat of an I advantage, but they will I ' ' certainly not be able to take I anything for granted. ; There is only one com- bination of wins and losses between the three schools -Springville, Cedar and Pleasant Grove - that could eliminate the Redmen as one of the six teams from the Region to gain a state tournament berth. That combination would be that Springville, who must, travel to Carbon to meet the Dinos and Pleasant Grffove, who will be on the road against American Fork, a co-leader in the Region, would win and the Redmen would lose. "The surest way to get the tournament berth is to beat Dixie," commented assistant coach Dick Hobbs. A win for the Redmen in Friday's outing would insure the Redmen a spot in the state tournament. If all three teams win the Redmen would , get the edge over Pleasant Grove since the Redmen defeated the Vikings in regular league season. Neverthless the traditional rivalry, the significance of the outcome, at least on the part of the Redmen, should make Friday's game one of the top " attractions of the year. Entering this final week of play Timpview and American Fork are tied for the Region lead with Provo just one step behind. In fourth place is Pay son and all four of those clubs are assured a tournament berth. But the league championship cham-pionship is still on the line. Timpview will be at Provo for their final game of the season and American Fork will be at home against Pleasant Grove. Mathematically out of the running are Dixie, Spanish Fork and Carbon, but Carbon and Dixie still have a chance to influence the final selection of teams to enter the state tournament. The Redmen in last week's action defeated Springville at midweek but lost to Timpview in Friday's action. ac-tion. What really threw the Region into a turmoil was the double overtime victory that Springville scored over Provo in Friday's action. |
