From Parowan Todd Cooper, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cooper will compete along with Gary Gregerson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ned Gregerson of Cedar in Science. Alyse Chidester, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Chidester will compete in Foreign Language. She is from Cedar. Parowan's other entries . will be Brent Benson, son of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Benson in Vocational Education; Linda Hermansen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hermansen in Homemaking; Beverly Robinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd L. Robinson in Music; and Curtis Orton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Orton in General Scholarship. Scholar-ship. Cedar High's other sterling scholars are Bonnie Robinson, daughtger of Mrs. Nancy Robinson-Visual Arts; Brent Dix, son of Mr. i , ' K I f V If sife w Diane Adams Twenty two young people from Iron County are finalists in the 2nd year of the Southwest Utah Sterling Scholar program. They will compete against an additional 64 students from high schools in Beaver, Garfield, Kane and Washington School Districts at the final judging at Dixie College April 10. One winner and two runners up will be selected in each of the twelve educational categories. Each winner will receive a $200 cash award, and each runner-up will receive $100 to be used at the college or university of his or her choice. In additon, . most of the colleges and universities in Utah have offerd full tuition scholarships to the winners with many of them offering half-tuition scholarships to the runners-up. Some are offering full tuition and fees scholarships to both winners and runners-up. The purpose of the Sterling Scholar Program, sponsored by Deseret News-KSL, is to reward students for demonstrating excellence and outstanding achievement in the academic, vocational and fine arts areas. Competing in the English and Literature area will be Susie Cosney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cosney, Cedar and Raelyn Lawrence, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alma Lawrence, Summit. She is from Parowan High.
