Show Joint Meeting of Cedar-Dixie NARFE Members President recommended that the organization set this yearly meeting with, the Dixie Chapter as a tradition for the chapters of southern Utah. Joe Hanning, a member of both chapters added this choice statement: "In spite of inflation - the wages of sin remain the same." Federal Employees have always had withholdings from their entire salary and that the percentage withheld has always exceeded that of Social Security. The Federal Retirement System is in good financial condition . at this time with over $50 billion dollars, as opposed . to the financial plight of Social Security. Johnson also advised the group that NARFE is dedicated to work for the good of all elderly people at the State Level and briefed them on the work done by the NARFE during the budget session of the Utah State Legislature. .He commended the legislators for passing an improved Circuit Breaker Bill, for the lower income elderly and the approval of the Governor's budget for the alternative program to provide increased funding for 1980-81. Foyer Olson, post president of Cedar City Chapter, and a State Vice Monday, Feb. 4 22 members and guest of the Cedar City Chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) motored to St. George for a joint meeting with the Dixie Chapter at the Jolley King Restaurant. The 60 members and several guests were welcomed by William Hasfruther, President of the Dixie Chapter. He encouraged en-couraged all of the members to attend the State Convention Con-vention to i i be held June 25-27 25-27 to be held in Logan on the Utah State University campus. Robert E. Williams, President of the Cedar City chapter advised members that arrangements have , been made to have the Cedar ' City meeting date changed from Monday to Tuesday at the Senior Citizen Center in the old Junior High School. Meetings will be held at 12 noon. The joint meeting was addressed by Glen Johnson ' of Salt Lake City, president of the Utah Federation of Chapters. Johnson stressed the importance imp-ortance of NARFE maintaining main-taining contact with the media when the subject of Universal Coverage, combining Federal Retirement System with Social Security System is discussed. He stated that often the general public is unaware of the difference between the two systems. Johnson reminded the members that the Federal Retirement System began in 1920, some 17 years prior to Social Security, and that the |
