Show Chairman E. E. Snow Releases Facts On Ration Changes Housewives caught unaware by the sudden move of the OPA rationing ra-tioning division in Washington have a right to know some of the facts behind the move, E. Eric Snow chairman of the St. George war price and rationing board stated today. "In October a survey was conducted con-ducted by the Census Bureau to discover how many unused blue and red stamps were in the hands of the housewife," the chairman said. "The survey revealed that the women had enough blue stamps to purchase 2.8 month's supply of processed foods without with-out using any new stamps. It also showed that they could buy 2.5 month's supply of meats and butter and a two month's supply of sugar." Had housewives been permitted to use these stamps, in face of the serious food situation, they could have caused a run on retail re-tail food stores similar to a run on a bank. If all the women with extra stamps had used them at one time, they could have crippled crip-pled the food supply, and caused a really severe shortage. For this reason, an appeal is being made to housewives to make sure that all cancled stamps are destroped so that none may find their way into black market channels. Any illegal use of the stamps now might mean that some food items would disappear from the market. This would touch every family in the United States. There is plenty of food for all if rationing is religiously re-ligiously observed, but there is no over-supply. Rationing means a fair share for all of us. Share and share alike. |
