Show News from Our People In the Armed Services By MABEL JARVIS A Son for Pfc. K. Cannon Wortl has gone out to Pfc. Richard H. Cannon, who is located somewhere in Iran, of the birth of a son to his wife on June 30. The baby was born in the St. Luke's hospital in Boise, Ida., where Mrs. Cannon is residing with her parents. She is the former for-mer Miss Valeria M. Smith, s la Sjft McArthur Visits Sgt. and Mrs. Therol McArthur and daughter, Sharol Lynne are returning this week end to Las Vegas after two weeks furlough in St. George with Mr. and Mrs. Val McArthur and visising in Tooele with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Warburton, parents of Mrs. McArthur. Mc-Arthur. Sgt. McArthur is appreciative ap-preciative of military employment in the office of rail transportation, which is along the line he was working before entering the service but says is surely seems good to come home even for a few days. Pa pa is Rex Terry Returns to Unit Relatives of Seaman Rex D. Terry have recent letters saying he is recovered from his invasion wounds, is out of the hospital and back on duty with his company again. He had feared he would lose contact with his company while in hospitalization. He says he is feeling okeh and able to be back at his cooking. la im ?s TSgt. Stout Back in V. S. among its recent enrollees Technical Techni-cal Sergeant Gordon Stout, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Stout, formerly form-erly of Hurricane and now of Salt Lake City. Sgt Stout served eight months overseas, participating participat-ing in 25 missions against the enemy in the European area. He was accorded the Air Medal and three additional Oak Leaf clusters for his work as engineer-gunner. Having served overseas, he like others, is able to make vital contributions con-tributions as an instructor in aerial warfare. He returned to the United States, April 7. Prior to his induction he graduated from Hurricane high school and was employed by the Standard Oil Company. A Clark Haien In Texas Coach and Mrs. Lee Hafen had interesting letters this week from their son, Clark J. Hafen, who is a U. S. N. R. student at the state university in Austin, Texas. He is just beginning his work in the officer's procurement program and says the Texas university is surely well equipped. However, he still likes the little old home town and Dixie junior college. fa ft tss S2c A. Gentry Home On Leave Here from San Diego on leave from his U. S. Navy training, Austin Gentry, S2c reports having hav-ing made the grade in his boot training, and now he's ready for sea duty, whenever the command- ing officer says. Asked what about his violin, Seaman Gentry said he'd sure like to have that music box with him, but don't trust what might happen to it, so he's just leaving it home 'till the big job is done. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gentry of St. George. (a la B W. Snow On Sea Duty On duty somewhere in the Pacific Pa-cific Seaman Wendell Snow says he really likes his job. He is a clerk and accountant and gets into port quite frequently, though it's not just like being home, he does enjoy the ocean and his work on the ship. He was assigned to sea duty immediately after finishing finish-ing his boot training, having entered en-tered the service in March of this year and making his first voyage about two months later. 19 ra VV. Morris Here On Leave William T. (Billie) Morris who is hospital attendant in the U. S. Navy, is home this week on leave from his training post in California. Cali-fornia. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Morris. The family are spending today in Zion National Na-tional Park. |
