Show Mesquife Woman Feted On Eightieth Anniversary MESQUITE, Nev Mrs. Sarah Ann Burgess Hughes was honored by her children Saturday, June 11, the occasion being her eightieth birthday anniversary. A small group attended the noon dinner at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Everett Harris. Attending the dinner were a grandson, William Potter and family of Los Angeles. A large group of relatives and friends attended the party given for her in the evening at the home of her son, Elmer Hughes. The evening was spent in informal visiting and a brief program. An interesting feature was the display of film reel pictures of different family groups. Refreshments were served. Out of town guests at the party included Mrs. Jennie H. Barnum and daughters, Mrs. William E. Thompson, Mrs. Oscar Myers and children, all of St. George; Mrs. LaVere Frei of Santa Clara; Mr. and Mrs. Bertin Gurerrero and Mrs. Ann Oleria of Los Angeles. Mrs. Hughes was born in Old Hebron, Utah, June 11, 1864, a daughter of Hyrum and Agnes Burgess. The family moved to Mesquite in the spring of 1895 and she has continued to make her home at that place. She married James E. Hughes and together they reared a large family. Now at the age of 80, she enjoys fairly good health and is able to care for herself. She has 62 living grandchildren and 85 great-grandchildren. Several of her grandsons are in military service. |
