Show COUNTY PIONEER CALLED B'f DEATH Mrs. X. J. AVadsworth of Tanaca Died at Her Home There Monday. Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Terry Wadsworth, 70, died at her home in Panaca early Monday morning morn-ing of Bright's disease. She waa born in Salt Lake City in 1S61, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. S. Terry. They were among the families called to help settle the Dixie mission, arriving in St. George on New Year's day, 1S62. The following May, 1S63, Mr. Terry and family were called by President Eras-tus Snow to move to Shoal Creek and assist the Pulsipher brothers, John and William, in raising cattle. As a child she knew an ine hardships of pioneer life, and grew up in a home devoted to the Mormon church. Whenever a call came from the mission headquarters, or from the general gen-eral authorities in Salt Lake City, her family, and others living liv-ing in the then isolated region were always ready to respond. An Indian war broke out in 1865, and brought settlers from Clover valley into that part of the country, and from that beginning be-ginning the town of Enterprise was settled. A school was established es-tablished in 1S67, taught by Mrs. Wadsworth's sister, now Mrs. Mary Ann Huntsman. On March 17, 1SS0, she was married to Nephi John Wads-worth Wads-worth of Panaca, in the St. George temple, and moved to that place where they have since made their home, except during the winter of 1914-15, which they spent in St. George working work-ing in the temple. Last year Mr. and Mrs. Wadsworth celebrated cele-brated their golden wedding anniversary. an-niversary. She was the mother of eleven children, the following of whom with her husband survive her: J. L., N. J., and Eugene, St. George; Ernest, Frank, James and Lafayette, Panaca; Mrs. Jennie Culverwell, Caliente, and Mrs. Doris Mathews, Panaca. Other survivors, are three brothers, bro-thers, Frank, Enterprise; Zera, Idaho, and Thomas N., Delta; two sisters, Mrs. George Wadsworth, Wads-worth, Panaca, and Mrs. William Wil-liam Lee, Panaca; and the following fol-lowing half brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mary Ann Huntsman and Mrs. Lydia Winsor, Enterprise; Thomas, St. George; Mrs. Alice Harmon, Huntington, and Louis Lou-is and Joseph, Enterprise. Funeral services were held at Panaca Tuesday afternoon. All of her immediate family except Thomas N. and Zera Terry, and Mrs. Alice Harmon were present. Those from St. George, in addition addi-tion to the family, who attended attend-ed were: Mrs. Mervin Reber, Mrs. Charles Heybourne, Mrs. Warren Cox and daughters, Irene Ir-ene and Mrs. Rudger Atkin. |
