Teams in the Vernal Men's Softball League are involved in many close races for the top spot in each division and four teams battling for the number one spot in Division 1 are Young's Paint. ERA. High Country and Outsiders. Young's Paint is 9-2 and ERA is 10-3. High Country is 9-3 and the Outsiders are 8-3. Target Trucking is 6-6. The Diggers and Rippers are 5-6. The Moonshiners and Spidle J & C Ent. are 2-9. Reid's Bailers are 1-10. Last week High Country and Young's Paint were tied for first place and Young's Paint broke the tie due to a 15-14 win, June 14. Young's Paint was behind 14-10 going into the bottom of the seventh inning and scored five runs for a one run win. ERA beat the Moonshiners and Target Trucking downed the Outsiders. The Rippers beat Reid's Bailers, June 14. The Outsiders edged Reid's Bailers. 2 to 1 and ERA nipped the Diggers. 6-5. The Ripper downed SpidleJ & C Ent., 7-6 and High Country thumped Target Trucking by the score of 9 to 4, June 15. After three innings of action the game between the Outsiders and Reid's Bailers was tied at 0-0, but the Outsiders scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning for a 2-0 advantage. Lowell Aycock singled with two outs and moved to third base on a double by Kent Mortensen. A single by Jim Glenn knocked in Aycock and Mortensen and gave the Outsiders a 2-0 lead. John Pope drilled a single down the left field line, but Clif Harrison Har-rison grounded out for the third out. The Bailers were blanked in the bottom bot-tom of the fourth inning and the Outsiders Out-siders were shutout in the top of the fifth inning. Jim Paugh drilled a shot over the outfielder's head for a triple. Rob DeCol flied out and Donnie Paugh was walked. However, the runners died on the bases as Bill Pope flied out. One run was scored by the Bailers in the bottom of the fifth inning to narrow nar-row the Outsiders' lead to one run at 2-1. Shawn King singled and stole second se-cond base. Wayne Reid was safe on a fielder's choice. Tony Wright gained a single and ate some dirt as he performed per-formed a headfirst slide into first base. King scored the Bailers' first run on a close play at home plate. Tri Cinema is 5-4 and Uintah Uin-tah Engineering is 6-7. Hospital is 4-8 and Deseret is 4-9. The Rookies are 3-8 and Mountain Bell is 1-10. Gatewav Service beat Deseret, 15 to 10 and Century 21 downed Tri Cinema, 15- 10. Hospital downed Uintah Engineering, 11-7 and Tri Cinema defeated Mountain Bell, 22 to 8, June 14. Uintah Engineering smeared the Rookies, 22-6 and Montague Construction Construc-tion downed Tri Cinema, 13 to 7. Deseret toppled Hospital, 15-12 and Century 21 nipped Main Street Blues, 11-9. P & P Well Service is in first place in Division 3 at 9-2 and Salty Oaks is 9-3. Circle K is 7-3 and Chevron, Jelco are 7-4. Utah Power & Light is 3-5. Bonanza Diggers and Dowell are 4-8. Morcon Jiggers are 3-7 and White River is 2-10. Jelco downed Salty Oaks, 12 to 9 and P & P Well Service blanked Dowell, 16- 0. Chevron defeated the Bonanza Diggers, 15 to 8 and White River Shale edged Chevron, 5-4. Salty Oaks downed down-ed White River Shale, 24 to 16. The Dowell-Morcon game will be replayed.
