Show May Dinosaur visits down Travel to Dinosaur National Monument Monu-ment for May amounted to 44,071, which is a 6 percent decrease from the same period last year. According to monument Superintendent Joe L. Kennedy, Ken-nedy, the cool, wet weather has undoubtedly un-doubtedly affected the month's travel. So far in 1983, travel for the first six months is also down about 9 percent below the 1982 figures. During May, 2,700 campers took advantage ad-vantage of the park's campgrounds, while 3,142 boater-user-days were recorded on the white-water rafting trips inside park boundaries. "The high water on both the Yam-pa Yam-pa and Green Rivers have produced some of the best rafting conditions in the last twenty or thirty years," said Kennedy. White water rafting in the monument monu-ment is strictly controlled and is by permit only. As a result, Dinosaur has an extremely good safety record. Persons Per-sons interested in information on rafting raf-ting trips should contact a park ranger or call (303 ) 374-2216 or (801) 789-2115. |
