Show June runoff at 130 of normal May has been another month of high precipitation which has caused the runoff to be much higher than forecast, according to the June River Flow Advisory published by the Bureau of Reclamation. The June runoff forecast has increased in-creased from 117 percent to 130 percent per-cent of normal. Because of this high runoff and daily weather changes, the river flows and releases from the dams are extremely unpredictable and may fluctuate daily. Colorado River at Westwater Canyon The peak flow so far this year of 46,000 cfs occurred on June 1. The flow of June 14 was 43,000 cfs. Cataract Canyon including the Green River The peak flow so far this year was 85,000 cfs on June 1. The snowmelt runoff is forecast at 130 percent per-cent of normal. The flow on June 14 was 81,000 cfs. Lake Powell Lake Powell filled to elevation 3,700 feet on June 8. The current cur-rent elevation is 3,702 feet, which is 2 feet into surcharge. Due to the filling of Lake Powell, 60,300 cfs is being released from the dam. These releases will decrease, but will still be high in July and August. The highest previous release from Glen Canyon Dam was 38,000 cfs on June 30, 1980. Upper Green River-Fontenelle Reservoir Fontenelle Reservoir is at elevation 6,496 feet. The present release from the dam is 10,200 cfs. The maximum releases are not expected to exceed 13,000 cfs. The inflow is expected ex-pected to be about 104 percent of normal. Green River flows below Flaming Gorge Flaming Gorge Reservoir is now at elevation 6,030 feet and may fill to elevation 6,040 within the next few days. The present release of 8,200 cfs will be maintained for several weeks, then decreased. The highest previous release from Flaming Gorge was 5,500 cfs, which occurred last year. Green River at Green River, Utah The peak Green River flow so far this year was 38,000 cfs on June 2. The flow on June 14 was still 38,000 cfs. San Juan River The releases from Navajo Dam are 1,200 cfs and may be increased within the next week. The peak river flow so far at Bluff was 7,800 cfs on June 1. The flow on June 14 was 5.500 cfs. |
