Show In ?he &ood M Bays 50 YEARS AGO June 22, 1933 At a meeting of the executive committee com-mittee of the U.B.I.C. held at Fort Duchesne Wednesday night of last week many details of the program of the coming convention were worked out. Although nothing of a serious nature resulted, the City Fathers considered some very dangerous subjects in their Council meeting Wednesday night. After some time on vandalism they turned to rowdyism, then cautiously discussed poisoning and finally water rent-paid and not paid. Fortunately the deliquent water users, but was more concerned about stray dogs who are periodically exterminated by some kind hearted stockman. The people of Utah considered the rugged mountain ranges ever within their view as much more than a wonderful land of scenic beauty and grandeur, and much more than a national na-tional playground and resort of rare distinction. People of the Lapoint area have utilized their spare time during the past winter and are constructing some very fine buildings. The community is situated near a sawmill and timber is obtained during the winter months, when work cannot be carried on effectively effec-tively on farms. 30 YEARS AGO June 18, 1953 Voters of Uintah County and Vernal City Tuesday voted in favor of the new high school 650 to 549, a majority of 101 votes; they defeated the county building 694 to 487, a majority of 207; and defeated the city building 190 to 166, a majority of 24. Crude oil prices are increased by 25 cents a barrel Tuesday at important Utah and western Colorado fields said the Tribune. A boat ride down the majestic Green River was enjoyed by a group of 31 Vernal business and professional men, sponsored by the Vernal Chamber of Commerce, on Thursday of last week. A group of five from Yosemite Park. California spent most of last week on the Yampa and Green Rivers, enjoying enjoy-ing a river run under the supervision of Bus Hatch. The group included Norman Nor-man and Majorie Herkenham, Dana and Ester Morgenson, and Douglas Whiteside. Mr. Herkenham is assistant assis-tant park naturalist at Yosemite; Mr. Morgenson is accountant for Yosemite Park and also Curry Co.; Mr. Whiteside is a professional photographer and accountant. |
