Show Manila Clara Robinson Phone 784-5333 Basketball camp held in Manila Twenty -eight boys took advantage of the basketball camp held in Manila for four days last week. Those boys were divided into two groups. The instructors instruc-tors for these boys were Larry Bergeson. USU guard Academic All-American All-American '81-'82 and Gary Furniss, from Idaho High School player of '75-'76 and three years varsity center for BYU. These instructors have conducted con-ducted clinics such as these in places like USU. The Manila boys were able to receive this instructor at low cost and without leaving Manila. Those instrumental in securing this camp for Manila were Randy Steinaker, Rick Ellsworth, and Richard Coburn. The Manila High School Cow Country Coun-try Rodeo held a picnic at Palisades Picnic area June 17. Those attending were members and their families and those who had aided the high school students in holding the rodeo June 31 and their families. The weather was perfect for visiting and enjoying steaks and all the trimmings. Recently the Daggett Unit of the American Cancer Society posted a thank you to all those who contributed and helped with the cancer drive earlier this spring. Daggett County w ent w ay over the assessment for the area. The amount donated was So.S7.72. Those w ho volunteered to collect this , amount were Fon Slagowski, Lori Ruble, Ru-ble, Carla Coburn, Penny Muir, Mary Ruble and Betty Lewis from Manila; Sharon Walters and Donna Kunkel of Clay Basin, and Mary Hatch of Dutch John. Officers for the Daggett Unit are Mary Steinaker, Peggy Briggs, Mari Gean Campbell and Carol Slaugh. Daggett School District has hired a new superintendent for the Daggett School. Dr. F. Lynn Bills w as hired at the regular meeting of the board June 14 He began his position the morning following the meeting Dr. Bills is a graduate of BYU, but received his masters degree and doctorate doc-torate from USU. The M&L Club held the annual children's picnic at the Palisades Picnic Pic-nic area Thursday, June 111 at noon. Twelve members, one guest and 20 children enjoyed the picnic. Chicken, leverages, rolls and cake w as furnished furnish-ed by the hostesses and the club. Members brought pot luck dishes. There were also hot dogs and mar-shmallows mar-shmallows for the children. "It" packages were won by Kalhy Meinrod, Wanda Larson and Krystal Skinner. Dues were collected as the dues have to be to the extension service ser-vice by July 1. The Manila LDS primary conducted a pot luck picnic and a bicycle rodeo at the parking lot June I I. Following the dinner the young cow boys and girls competed in a rodeo on their bikes. The children were divided inlo age groups to participate and each age group had three lop places with ribbons rib-bons given in each event for each group. They had barrel racing, slake racing, and getting the ribbon off the goat. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Walkins of Kuna, Idaho have announced (he forthcoming for-thcoming wedding of their daughter Carol to Lauren Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Waller Anderson of Manila on June 21 in the Kuna United Methodist Chin ch. Following the wedding wed-ding ceremony, a reception will be held in the church basement. On July 2 an open house will be hosted by the groom's parents at the Senior Citizen Center in Manila. 'Che bride is a graduate of Kuna High School, attended Boise Stale University for two years and presently at lends I he Oregon Institute of Technology at Klamath Falls, ( )i e 'Che groom spent six years in the U.S. Navy and is now employed in Klamath Falls, Ore. Mr. and Mrs. Michael Cruz are parents of a son born June 17 in the Duchesne Hospital in Roosevelt. The baby weighed 7 pounds and 9 ounces and will be named David Brett. His paternal grandmother is Neva Nemeth of Vernal. His maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Cloyd Reed of Manila. Mr. and Mrs. Kotn-rt Ellsworth are parents of a boy Ixirn June 16 in the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. He weighed 8 pounds and 1 ounce and will be named KoIhtI Tyson His maternal grandmother is Mrs. Gladys Swenson of Montpeher, Idaho. His paternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs. George Ellsw orth of Manila Daggett Senior Citizens held a rummage rum-mage sale and bake sale at the Senior Citizen Center Saturday. They reported the affair was quite successful. suc-cessful. With the bake sale and rummage rum-mage sale, they sold lunch and other refreshments The walls are going up on the new-cafe new-cafe at the intersection of highways 44-43 in Manila this past week. The Little Leaguers will play against the MeKinnon boys at 6 p m. Monday. There will lie a TV and mill levy meeting at the Daggett County Courthouse Cour-thouse at 8 p m. June 23. |
