Uinvah knocks ovv Carbon Binos 8-6 The Uintah Utes were behind by one run in the bottom of the eighth inning, but a mighty shot from the bat of Mike Robbins Rob-bins which sailed over the fence for a three-run homer gave the Uintah Utes an 8 to 6 triumph over the Carbon Dinos Friday Fri-day in Vernal. The win was number four for the Utes. Carbon grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first inning. The Dinos' Gragg ripped the Ute pitched for a single and Vea was walked in the top of the first inning. Vasquaze singled and Dimick was walked. All four scored and Smith gained two runs-batted-in with a double. Uintah was blanked in the bottom of the first inning as Randy Nelson grounded ground-ed out, Larry Crowl struck out and Kurt Robb grounded out. Both teams were shutout in second inning, but the Utes struck for runs in the third inning and tied up the game at 4-4. Robbins singled and Brian McNamara was walked. Rick Capps knocked in Robbins on a single. Crowl was hit by the pitcher, McNamara, Capps and Crowl scored to knot up the game at 4-4 after three innings. The Dinos pocketed a 5-4 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Fox singled and scored Carbon's fifth run. Uintah scored one run in the fifth inning to tie up the contest at 5-5. Capps was walked and scored on a single by Crowl. Both teams were held scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings and the game was forced into an extra inning. Smith led off with a single for Carbon in the top of the eighth and Powell also gained a base hit. A single by Gragg knocked in Powell with the go ahead run at 6-5. Jim Abegglen led off for the Utes in the bottom of the eighth inning with a single. Dale Wood singled and Darin Nelson was walked. Abegglen was forced out of third, but Robbins delivered a three-run homer to present an 8 to 6 win to the Uintah Uin-tah Utes. "Jim Abegglen started the game on the mound for the Utes and Billy Taylor also pitched for the Utes. Taylor had only on-ly two runs scored against him. Taylor is a sophomore. Robbins had the game winning homer. We were down one going go-ing into the eighth inning. It was a fast ball down the middle," stated Uintah baseball coach Vic Anderson. Uintah's junior varsity team will battle bat-tle Union on the road Friday at 2 p.m. and the Utes' varsity team will battle Pleasant Grove at Pleasant Grove Saturday Satur-day as 12 noon. The Utes will battle Union in Roosevelt Tuesday, April 26 and will host Altamont April 28 and Timp-view Timp-view April 30. |
