Show Sterling Scholars vie for scholarships The Northeastern Division of the state Sterling Scholar program was held Tuesday Tues-day night at Morgan High School. Uintah High School entered a student in each of the 12 divisions. Students involved in-volved were Marcia Southam, homemaking; Paul Nelson, social studies; Jerome Davies, science; Vicki Fowler, English; Vicki Snow, vocational education; Greg Clark, math; Jewel Priest, visual arts; Melanie Hacking, foreign language; Greg Robbins, speechdrama; Lee Claycomb, music; Keri Bartlett, business, and Kevin Montague, Mon-tague, general scholarship. The program was started along the Wasatch Front several years ago, sponsored spon-sored by the Deseret News and KSL Radio. Since then it has been extended to the rest of the state. 1 The Northeastern Division includes 13 other high schools besides Uintah. Uintah High winners were chosen March 11, and were announced at a special assembly. Since then the finalists have prepared a portfolio of their accomplishments ac-complishments to be submitted in the division competition. At the competition Tuesday, students were interviewed and those in music and speechdrama performed their talent. Winners in the division competition were honored at an awards ceremony Tuesday night. Winners in each division will receive a tuition paid scholarship to the college of their choice in Utah. At press time winners had not been announced. |
