Show Altex Oil plans test well in tar sand triangle Altex Oil Corp, disclosed that it has received a permit from the U.S. Geological Survey for the drilling of a test well on one of its leases in the tar sand triangle of Wayne and Garfield Counties. Cecil C. Wall, president of the Vernal and Denver-based independent exploration ex-ploration company, said that Altex plans to drill a projected 1,600-foot test of the permain white rim standstone thought to be the principal oil-impregnated oil-impregnated or oil-bearing sand in the area in order to core, evaluate and test the possibility of oil recovery by conventional methods. The proposed test well, the Government Govern-ment No. 1, will be drilled on a federal lease located in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, which lease is 100 percent owned by the company, in Wayne County, according to Wall. The company owns an interest in a total of 8,071 gross and 6,663 net acres of federal and State of Utah leases in the Tar Sand Triangle area. In making the announcement, Wall said that Altex originally filed a notice of intent to drill on the property in 1976 and re-filed its application in 1979 following the completion of an environmental en-vironmental impact study by the . National Park Service. The company expects to commence drilling operations on the Government No. 1 in late spring 1981, pending rig availability. |
