Show Cub scout meets governor As Utah National Parks Council Cub Scout Youth Representative, Dace "G" Billings met with Gov. Scott Matneson last Tuesday, Feb. 10, in honor of Boy Scout Week. In February of 1980, Dace, son of Arvin and Jeanette Billings of Vernal, was chosen by the Cub Scout Committee Com-mittee to represent his pack, No. 3240, at the Uintah District competition for Cub Scout National Youth Representative Represen-tative for 1981. He competed against 21 other cub scouts to earn this honor. Dace's application was sent in to the Utah National Parks Council to be entered into council competition. He was interviewed by phone and later received word that he had been chosen Cub Scout Representative for the Council. The next step of competition was Area II, which is equivalent to the state. He was judged against other representatives from councils within the area. Dace won the honor to ' represent Area II in the western region competition. In September of 1980 he was chosen as runner-up for the Western Region among five area representatives. Tlie winner from Washington was entered in the National competition v-here the winner would have the privilege of meeting with President Reagan during scout week. This is the first year that the Uint:;h District has entered a Cub Scout ir.to competition for youth representative. Dace enjoys acting in high school musicals, singing solos, playing tie piano, riding motorcycles and swimming. swim-ming. Last year he was one of a team of four from Central Elementary who wen the District Knowledge Bowl Olympics for the third grade. He was recently awarded first place in the music division for the PTA Reflections contest at Discovery Elementary- His entry was an original music composition, lie is an active member of the LDS Church. He is in the fourth grade and is attending Discovery Elementary. |
