Show Wafer line explosion blamed on faulty white plastic pipe City water service is back to normal this week following a rash of calls complaining com-plaining of low water pressure and a waterline break at Main and Vernal Avenue. According to Kay Overson, city construction con-struction and building superintendent, a section of 6-inch faulty pipe exploded under Main Street in the center of town last Thursday and flooded the street and into Vernal Drug. Last summer the city replaced the line along Main Street with some pipe supplied by Carlon Corporation. After the pipe was installed it exploded several times and was later found to be faulty and supposedly was replaced. According to Overson, the exploded pipe was a section of the faulty Carlon pipe which hadn't been replaced. City crews recapped Main Street where crews dug to find the leak and turned the valves off isolating it. The line will be dug up again in April during warmer weather to repair the line. Overson said leaving the faulty section sec-tion of pipe until spring would not affect water service unless it isn't repaired before spring runoff. It was also reported that the shortage of water pressure and some water being be-ing cut off was due to valves in the city water system which have been turned off. The water turn off caused several calls to city hall last week. How the valves were turned off the city officials didn't know for sure, but things were reported back to normal this week. During the time of the water cut offs, Community Consultants were testing the city water system by checking the valves and water flow. |
