The traveling science show will be an important segment of UBIC. Space exhibit will be highlight at annual UBIC The recent Skylab re-entry has rekindled interest nationwide in space facts, and the Uintah Basin is no exception. ex-ception. Seth Jarvis and Tom Ciawsen, of the Hansen Planetarium, will be in Roosevelt during UBIC to present a science demonstration project developed by the Planetarium staff. The traveling show, which may well be one of the most popular of the UBIC exhibits, will encompass three areas: a space science demonstration using NASA equipment, including models of the Apollo, Skylab, and the Space Shuttle, and including also NASA slides from space missions; telescope demonstrations, with area residents invited to bring out their own personal telescopes for the occasion; basic science of sound, electricity, propulsion, magnetism, light, etc. The exhibit has already been presented at a number of schools in communities around the state. Children who barely recall the exhiliration of seeing the moon walk on TV are im-pressed im-pressed and fascinated at seeing a space suit "close up." The Planetarium offers star shows, exhibits, and a variety of classes to the public. The traveling demonstration adds a new dimension to community service, and is expected to make a special and lasting contribution to the educational aspect of the Uintah Basin Industrial Convention, August 2-4. |
