Search-Rescue plans late summer sale The Search and Rescue Patrol of Uintah county has been busy the past few weeks in preparation for their late sale August 11. ' The doors will open at 8 a.m. in the Search and Rescue building, bargains will be available until noon. At the present time they are seeking donations of clothing, furniture, appliances, ap-pliances, or what-have-you. "'Items donated will be picked up if the persons making the donation will just call the sheriff's office 789-2511 or myself, 789-0720," 789-0720," said Commander Kieth McDonald. Mc-Donald. "We-dohave on the racks a few fall clothes, coats, etc.," he added. "We will use the money gleaned from the sale to help in purchasing the much needed radio equipment and also in adding to our scuba diving equipment," McDonald added. "Over the past few weeks we have been notified of three drownings. Flaming Gorge. Steinaker and me latest one at East Park Reservoir. Reser-voir. At Flaming Gorge the Uintah was turned back after the search was hampered due to inclement weather. Steinaker Lake the drowning victim's body was discovered by fishermen a short time after he was reported missing. At East Park, divers from Daggett, Manila and Duchesne counties logged over 22 hours underwater un-derwater search before the victim was found. Other Unit activities . have been qualification of eight Patrol members on the pistol range, under the direction of SGT.Jack Reynolds. The qualification is necessary said McDonald because we are called out at times by the Sheriff's office to assist in guarding prisoners and assisting with roadblocks, etc. In these instances we must carry a gun and therefore we need certification with the state for this. All of the members have not had the opportunity op-portunity to certify due to the East Park search. Another shoot will be held next week. The local members are getting ready to attend the State Search and Rescue Conference in Nephi, Utah, August 2, 3 and 4. They will test their skills in first aid. shooting and rally race competition. com-petition. The Uintah Unit will host the 1980 convention here. |
