Kurt Robb had a standup double and Clark Emery slugged a homer. Emery started the game and pitched outstanding ball for three innings. Jimmy Bristol pitched four innings and he did a real good job. Mike Robbins also pitched in the game. He got some good hits and scored some crucial runs on fine base running," stated Calvin Adams. Vernal Pony League all-star team coach. Vernal was knocked out of the tournament when they were nipped by Provo. 3 to 1, on July 18. Adams remarked. "We played a very good ball game even though we lost. I feel Provo was the best team in the tourney even though they lost in the first day of tourney. Kurt Robb pitched the whole game and allowed only three runs in the first inning. He struck out probably 75 percent of the batters he faced after the first inning. Scott Adams got a double and scored the only run for Vernal when Jerry Haslem drove' him in with a sacrifice fly." Members of the Vernal Pony League all-star team were:. Clark Emery, Leonard Schiller, Gary Swim, Daren Nelson, Darrin Bailey, Rick York, Scott Adams, Jerry Haslem, Jimmy Bristol, Johnny Johnson, Brian McNamara, Kurt Robb, Rod Hamson, Mike Robbins and Travis Hilkey.
