Show eu bysicie3Eries drawn "for Wrn3l elementary schools With the completion of the Robin-wood Robin-wood Lane Elementary and its opening for use next year, new boundaries for all elementary schools were presented to the Uintah County Board of Education last Thursday. The new boundaries, subject to public input in January, will skim 100 to 150 students from the other elementary schools in the district to give 541 students to the new elementary. The new school boundaries include all students south of Fifth South and West of Fifth East. All. boundaries include both sides of the street except for a small section along Main Street. Due to busing problems, special consideration has been given to deadend streets. 935 North, will go to Maeser Elementary, 1750 South and 2850 South will go to the new school. Teaching staff from the other five elementaries will be skimmed to provide 18 teachers at the new school. In other board action, Gary Taylor was sworn in as a new board member and John Smith was nominated board president. The board heard concerns of parents about charity busing. A few children were denied charity rides home from school due to over crowding of the buses. The parents asked the board why they were singled out when all the buses in the area are overcrowded. The board said that they aren't . required to bus children that live under a mile and a half away from school, and they said this wasn't the only case of children being denied the charity rides due to overcrowding. On an unrelated issue Dale Harrison pointed out to the board discrepancies between Uintah and Union High Schools saying the kids at Union High School "are short changed." "They have two art classes in Union compared to six at Uintah, in music five at Union, nine at Uintah, theater two at Union , five at Uintah, English, five Union, eighteen Uintah and math five Union and ten Uintah," he said. "To send kids to another county's school is no good," he added. With the contract between Uintah Duchesne County and the Ute Tribe; expiring in January, Superintendent Wayne Reid made some suggestions to the board which would help the problem. They included getting out of Union High or having some say in the management. The board took the suggestions under advisement. Expansion possibilities at Todd Elementary were also considered by the board. The expansion includes an 1100-seat auditorium, a media area, and a science lab. i J s S3$o , yL p j Mj i !
