Show Red Rocks Neighborhood monthly meeting last week brought out 14 leaders and assistants. After the meeting during the day training was held for the separate groups of Scout leaders. Brownies, Juniors. Jun-iors. Cadettes and Seniors. The training van from Salt Lake with the new training director, Kathy Shea, and field advisor, Jan Oliveto, from Price put in a full day with leaders. From four to nine Senior Girl Scouts finished up their Leader-in-training session sess-ion which was started last spring. Thursday the training van worked in the Monticello and Montezuma Creek areas accompanied ac-companied by District VII Chairman Danny Winfield. Montezuma Creek School had 35 girls show up for a song and game session in the lunch room of the the school and later on the playground. Because so many of the children live such a great distance from the school they are unable to have meetings after school and meet twice a week on their lunch hour for Girl Scout work. Mary Jane Benally is starting her 4th year with the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade girls and Debbee Little is starting her second year with the Brownies. Friday morning found us in Bluff and after Girl Scouting was finished we found time to show Kathy the swinging bridge of the San Juan and some Indian ruins outside of Blanding. Our new training director has just moved to Utah from Greely, Colorado, and thought her short tour of the SE Utah really great and is planning on visiting the area, again soon when she will have more time for hiking. We had planned a leader's overnight in the Arches for more outdoor training but due to the lovely rain we received we cancelled that trip and hope for it another sunny day. Senior Girl Scouts and their parents are reminded that October 5, Tuesday evening 7:30 p.m. at the Scout House there will be a film and more information given for Runways, Run-ways, National and International Interna-tional Opportunities for Girl Scouts for next summer. Please try and attend, many applications must be in by the first of the year. If any girls are planning on writing articles for the all-girl paper Scout Scramble, all articles are due in SLC by Oct. 15 complete with girls name, address, and troop number. |
